David R. Godine

David R. Godine, fifty-year prominent book publisher and printer of Godine Press, began his unique collecting, printing and promotion of high quality publishing by working first with artist-printer Leonard Baskin and the Gehenna Press.  He then converted an abandoned Brookline, Massachusetts cow barn for printing with hot metal. His letterpress of books and pamphlets were American classics of nonfiction, literary fiction, and poetry.  An independent book publisher, recently retired, he was adventurous and outspoken about the unexpected quality of the content and production of his books,  Reviews of his press reference the fine colors, tasteful art, elegant typography and historic photos on fine papers: a gold standard, and  “grace that endures.”  Godine books won Nobel Prizes, adaptations for BBC serials, and more.
